Celtic sword
A sword inspired by the finds of the La Tene culture of the celtic era (approx 450BC-50AD).
In this project, I opted not to go for what I thought would be historically accurate for these swords, but instead took what we know about these swords and the culture they’re from, made a study into the styles of the period, and built off their ideas and forms, with more modern flair.
The blade is historically accurate, with dimensions based closely on artifacts, as well as the bronze face plate. The hilts of these swords were organic materials - wood and bone - and have almost all rotted away over the last 2000+ years, though a few pieces do remain, from which we can take some hints regarding their construction and forms.
The materials used in the hilt are bronze, African Blackwood, and Black & White Ebony.
Blade Length is 28.3” (72cm), overall of 34.25” (87cm), with a weight of 1.44lb (655g)
